The Asian Conference on Remote Sensing (ACRS) is a yearly eventspearheaded by the Asian Association of Remote Sensing (AARS),Asia’s largest society of remote sensing scientists andprofessionals. The objective of AARS is to promote Remote Sensingthrough exchange of information, mutual cooperation andinternational understanding and goodwill amongst the membercountries of Asia-Pacific Region. The yearly ACRS is one of itsmajor activity of promoting Remote Sensing. ACRS was firstorganized in 1980 in Bangkok, Thailand. Since then, ACRSconferences were conducted in many Asian cities with the voluntaryparticipation of the host country and researchers, educators,professionals, and students coming from all over the world. It wasin 1998 that the 19th ACRS was organized in Manila, Philippines.For the past three years, ACRS has been organized in Nay Pyi Taw,Myanmar (2014), Bali, Indonesia (2013), and Pattaya, Thailand(2012). This year 2015, it will be the 36th ACRS, and thePhilippines will be the host country for the second time around. Itwill be jointly organized by AARS and the Philippine Geosciencesand Remote Sensing Society (PhilGRSS). ACRS 2015: FosteringResilient Growth in Asia This year, ACRS 2015 will bring togetherstudents, researchers, scientists, engineers, policy makers,professionals and practitioners from developed and developingcountries from and around Asia to share insights into thechallenges and opportunities of Remote Sensing and relatedgeospatial technologies in building resiliency and encouragingeconomic growth and development in one, dynamic Asia. Theconference takes place at a significant moment when disasters andclimate change continues to negatively impact our people and thecommunity. The conference, therefore, will provide an outstandingopportunity to learn and explore how Remote Sensing will help usbuild resiliency to these disturbances and to strengthen ourcapability to adapt to stress and change.
