The meerkat or suricate, Suricata suricatta,isa small mammal belonging to the mongoose family. Meerkats liveinall parts of the Kalahari Desert in Botswana, in much of theNamibDesert in Namibia and southwestern Angola, and in SouthAfrica. Agroup of meerkats is called a "mob", "gang" or "clan". Ameerkatclan often contains about 20 meerkats, but somesuper-families have50 or more members.
