Description

The Senate is the upper house of theParliamentof Cambodia. The Senate is a legislative body, composedof 61members. 57 of the Senate seats are elected every six yearsby thecommune Councillors from provinces of Cambodia. The Kingnominatestwo Senators, and the National Assembly nominates anothertwo,bringing a total to 61 Senators. The Senate performs itsduties asdetermined in the constitution and law in force. TheSenate ischaired and presided by the President and assisted by twoVicePresidents

The Senate, along with the National Assembly, combined toformthe Nation’s legislative body (The Cambodia Parliament) witheachplaying an important role in the social democratization processandestablishing the rule of law in the Kingdom of Cambodia.Animportant function of the Senate is in its contribution tothestability of the Nation’s political life, and the role it hasinstrengthening and improving national reconciliation and helpingthecountry to develop more prosperously.
