Inspired by the honorable Prime Minister of India Shri NarendraModi, honorable Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shri ShivrajSingh Chouhan planned to make Hanuwantiya tapu (island) the mostsought after tourist destination. With innovative ideas, the firstJal Mahotsav was organized by Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department for10 days - 12-21 Feb 2016. It inspired awe in the mind of allvisitors. It is organised at Indira Sagar dam, which is one of thebiggest man made water body of Asia. Jal Mahotsav is focused onestablishing Madhya Pradesh as a surging forth in the nationalarena of adventure & water tourism. It is an event that bringsadventure activities on one platter, so far a distant dream inCentral India. The activities are brought from various parts of thecountry, which ensures cost effectiveness and total security to theparticipants. The activities are divided as air, land and wateractivities. Areas are earmarked for each activity at Hanuwantiya.Some of the major activities at Jal Mahotsav include Zip Liner, Tugof War, Volleyball, Paint Ball Game, Archery Game, Bull Cart Ride,Lite Flying, Club House, Climbing Wall, Star Gazing, Kids Zone,All-terrain Vehicle, Land Para Sailing, Para Motors, Hot AirBalloon, Water Zorbing, Water Para Sailing, Motor Boat, BananaRide, Jet Ski, Night Camping at Island, Camp Fire, Food Zone &Craft Bazaar Madhya Pradesh, the heart of incredible India is oneof the biggest tourist attractions as it is blessed with riverNarmada, natural beauty and wild life. It is one of the state inthe country where the tourism sector receives much more priorityfrom the government. The state government has visionary plans ofopening up new dimensions in this sector to attract investment andincrease tourist inflow to earn revenue and generate employment.Through Jal Mahotsav, MP showcases itself as a promising state forwater and adventure tourism. The rich water bodies of the stateprovide it a potential for exploring possibilities in water sportswhich, if tapped, would create immense scope for adventure touristsas in countries like Singapore. Jal Mahotsav was planned toshowcase the potential and possibilities which MP holds forinvestors, travel planners and adventure tourists on the bank ofIndira Sagar Dam, Hanuwantiya in Khandwa district. Indira Sagar damis one of the largest man made dam providing 950+sq kms of pristinewater of Narmada River with over a hundred islands. The site is asgood as any seaside with the advantage of fresh water. This sitewas zeroed on by the MP Tourism Corporation as the best site forholding Jal Mahotsav, which was organized by Aum event, anopportunity won through the transparent process of tendering. Thesite, although picturesque, was undulating, uneven and totallyuninhabited, except the Tourist Complex run by Madhya PradeshTourism Corporation, devoid of water supply and electricity. It hadto be shaped into a venue, fit for hosting the adventure activitiesand accommodation. This is a first of its kind event in which air,water and land adventure activities were brought together at asingle site at reasonable cost. The most captivating experience isthe tented city which was created facing the water body at the bankof the Indira Sagar dam. It is a perfect place to view &sunriseand sunset. Those who wish to spend some quality time with theirfamily and indulge in some much needed relaxation, can book aluxury tent at the festival and sit back and enjoy the serenebeauty of the water and enjoy the activities. Jal Mahotsav is aunique manifestation of varied cultural ethos of the region knownfor the ethnic flavor and zest for celebration. This festivalprovides an exclusive opportunity to witness the creative ingenuityof the artisans and craftspeople, assorted array of folk music andperformances, mixed representation of culture & communities,along with a vast diversity in ecology.
