Rana Udai Singh II the father of Rana Pratap laid the foundation ofthe City Palace, in A.D. 1559, on the advice of a Hermit GoswamiPrem Giriji Maharaj. The museum and its collections are housedwithin the extensive areas of the historic city palace at Udaipur.The larger city palace built tier on tier over four centuriesincludes within its precincts an array of former royal apartments,historic courtyards, ceremonial durbar halls, delightful enclosedgardens, terraced quarters and sacred temples.
