Предлагаемая читателю книга содержит ряд позднеантичных ираннесредневековых христианских апокрифов, связанных с именамиИисуса, Марии, Иосифа, Иоанна Крестителя, а также тех, кого принятоназывать "свидетелями Христовыми", т. е. людьми, упомянутыми вНовом завете, которые видели Христа, как, например, Никодим илиИосиф из Аримафеи. О судьбе этих людей, как и о кончине Марии иИосифа в священных книгах ничего не говорится. В то же время всреде верующих начиная со II в. возрастал интерес ко всему, чтопрямо или косвенно было связано с земной биографией Христа, которуюнародная фантазия расцвечивала самыми невероятными чудесами исобытиями. Они были порой заимствованы из фольклора, из устныхпреданий, передаваемых проповедниками, а порой сконструированыблагочестивыми переписчиками, обрабатывавшими такие сказания с тем,чтобы облечь в доступную для бывших язычников форму положенияхристианского вероучения. Подобные рассказы должны были такжеответить на вопросы, волновавшие рядовых верующих: как будутнаказаны враги Иисуса, какая судьба постигла Понтия Пилата, какиеконкретно муки уготованы грешникам, кто может стать защитникомраскаявшихся? Ответы на эти вопросы верующие получали измногочисленных писаний, в которых отражалось то, что можно назвать"народным христианством" и что существенно расходилось и сновозаветной, традицией и с учением отцов Церкви.

Ортодоксальная Церковь (и православная, и католическая) непризнавала внеканонические писания источниками вероучения, считаяих апокрифическими, т. е. тайными, подложными. Некоторые из нихбыли запрещены ("отречены"), некоторые - как, например, "СошествиеХриста во ад" или "Успение Марии", стали основой церковногопредания в православии и католичестве, хотя сами тексты священнымипризнаны не были (протестанты всех направлений церковное преданиеотрицают). Однако, невзирая на запреты, тяга кзанимательно-нравоучительному чтению была такова, что апокрифыпереписывались, переводились на разные языки и многие рукописидошли до нашего времени.

This book contains a series of late antique and early medievalChristian apocrypha, associated with the names of Jesus, Mary,Joseph, John the Baptist, as well as those who are called"witnesses of Christ", t. E. The people mentioned in the NewTestament, who saw Christ, such as Nicodemus and Joseph ofArimathea. The fate of these people, as well as about the death ofMary and Joseph in the sacred books says nothing. At the same time,starting from the medium faithful to II. increased interest ineverything that was directly or indirectly connected with theearth's biography of Christ, which is popular imagination brightenthe most incredible miracles and events. They were sometimes takenfrom folklore, from oral tradition passed preachers, and sometimesdesigned pious scribes handle such stories in order to put into anavailable form for the Gentile Christian teaching position. Suchstories were also to answer the questions that agitated ordinarybelievers will be punished as enemies of Jesus, what happened toPontius Pilate, what specific flour theirs sinners, who can becomea defender repentant? Answers to these questions were obtained fromnumerous religious scriptures, which reflects what can be called"popular Christianity," and that substantial costs and with the NewTestament, tradition and with the teaching of the ChurchFathers.
