The year 1907 had become a very important year in the historyofsocial life of Surat. In this year two famous socialworkersnamelySmt. Bajigauriben Munshi & Smt. ShivgauribenGajjar whobecame widows at a very young age worked devotedly &activelyfor the welfare of helpless, widow, divorcee etc. so thattheycould live independently & with self respect. On anauspiciousday of 15th MAY, 1907 an ashram namely "Vanita Vishram"wasestablished for them in this way the foundation of VanitaVishramwas laid. In Nineteenth Century the condition of the widowswerepitiable & were also considered inauspicious in thesocietyseeing the condition of these women their heart was deeplypainedso they established "Vanita Vishram" to impart Education& maketheir life meaningful. During those days only two ladiesentered inthe institution of whom Parvatiben Desai's father ignoredthegrumbling of the society & got her admitted on 1-10-1907.Theother lady who was admitted was also of the same name Thusaninstitution started with only four person. Today "VanitaVishram"in Surat has grown into a huge tree from a small seed andhasfortunately became an institution imparting education to girlsfromNursery to College level.
