Building Information Modelling (BIM) like most innovations withinconstruction has brought about its own set of terminology. Theseterms were created for two reasons: Firstly, to ensure that theydid not associate with existing solutions that could take ownershipof new innovation; and secondly to encourage adopters to look attheir processes with fresh eyes. While the new terminology has beensuccessful in this regard it has had another less positive effect.Taking advantage of ambiguity within the industry misconceptionshave been accepted as fact leading to uncertainty on the definitionand scope of particular terms; this tool aims to tackle this issue.In order to work in a collaborative manner, we need to utilise acommon language. Without a common set of definitions andterminology published as part of the Level 2 delivery where existsa myriad of acronyms, terms, and definitions scattered amongst anarray of documentation. This tool has extracted those disparateinstances into a single source of information.
