Skandamata is the fifth form of Goddess Durga.Her name runs as follows: Skanda is another for Kartikeya and Matais the name of mother. Her worship takes place on the fifth day ofNavaratri (nine nights of Navadurga). She awards us devotees withsalvation, power, prosperity and treasures. She can grant oceans ofwisdom even to most illiterate person, if he happens to worshipher. Skandmata who possesses the brilliance of the sun fulfills allthe desires of her devotees. He who is selflessly devoted to her,attains all the achievements and treasures of life. The worship ofSkandmata purifies the heart of a devotee. While worshiping her, hedevotee should have absolute control over his senses and mind. Heshould free himself from worldly bondage and worship her with asingle-pointed devotion. Her worship is twice blessed. When thedevotee worships her, Lord Skand, her son in her lap, isautomatically worshipped. Thus the devotee happens to enjoy thegrace of Skandmata along with the grace of Lord Skand. If a devoteeworships her devoid of selfishness, the Mother blesses them withpower and prosperity. The devotees who worship Skandmata shine withdivine splendor. Her worship is ultimately conducive to salvation.She is regularly known as 'The Goddess of Fire'.
