What is Eidul Adha ?
It simply means "Festival of the Sacrifice"). Some just say"MajorFestival", the "Greater Eid" / "Greater Bairam" and alsoFeast ofthe Sacrifice. This festival honors the day when Abraham(Ibrahim)willing to sacrifice his promised son, Ishmael (Ismail),as an actof submission to God's command, before God (Allah) throughHisangel Gabriel (Jibra'il) and informs him that his sincereintentionof sacrifice is well accepted. EidulAdha is the latter ofthe two Eid holidays, the former being Eidal-Fitr which iscelebrated in Syawal, the Islamic month calendar.Precisely, EidulAdha falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah in theIslamic calendarand the celebration lasts for four days. It ismentioned in the196th ayah (verse) of Al-Baqara, the second sura ofthe Quran.Whereas the word "Eid" specifically mentioned once inSuraAl-Ma'ida, the fifth sura in the Quran, with bring meaningof"solemn festival".

Relations between Eidul Adha and Hajj.
Eidul Adha marks the last mandatory religious duty of beingaMuslim. It is closely related to the duty of Hajj(Pilgrimage)which performed by millions of Muslims in Mecca fromall over theworld. The Hajj is the final duty of the five pillarsof Islamalongside with Syahadah, Salah, Zakat and Fasting to beperformedby all Muslims. This final pillar requires those adult whoarefinancially and physically capable to comply the requirementofHajj at least once in a lifetime. The Hajj is the largestgatheringfor all Muslims at a one place in world where itdemonstratessolidarity of the Muslim people, and their submissionof selfnessto God (Allah). The word Hajj itself respresents meaning"to intenda journey", which connotes both the inward act ofintentions andthe outward act of a journey. The Hajj is thepilgrimage to Mecca,which is Islam's holiest site, and of course itis an integral partof the Muslim faith as a whole. The ProphetMuhammad once mentionedthat a person who performs Hajj properly"will return as a newlyborn baby [free of all sins]".

Eidul Adha is normally declared as a public holiday whereallMuslims celebrate it with family, friends and colleagues becauseitinvolves the activities of animal sacrifice, prayers andfamilygatherings. This special day begins with morning prayers,then thechosen animals are slaughtered followed by visits to familyandfriends. The whole spirit of the festival is so that Muslimssharetheir foods and monies with the poor as a representation ofunityand avoidance of selfishness elements. It symbolize thewillingnessof the rich people allowing the poor people to celebratethefestival together.
