悪魔の書架というものがある。
人間の作り出した物語すべてを管理、保存する場所だ。
管理人、本の悪魔は物語によって創造された世界――作品世界を見守っている。
だが、その作品世界を侵すものがいる。
紙魚と呼ばれるその存在は、物語を汚染し、破綻させ、ついには消滅させてしまう。
本の悪魔はこれを防ぐため、才能ある人間と契約し、紙魚を倒す使命を授けた。
ある日、悪魔の書架に喚ばれる主人公。
彼は、大切な思い出を失っていることに気がつき、悪魔と契約する。
