His Holiness Śivarāma Swami was born in Budapest, Hungaryin1949.He became an initiated disciple of Srila Prabhupada in1973.He then received Sannyasa from His Divine Grace in 1979, atthe ageof 30 years.He is one of the initiating Gurus in ISKCON, andhasinitiated many disciples.
In 1980 Sivarama Swami moved to the UK, becoming the presidentofCaitanya College, and the UK’s National Sankirtana leader. Hewasrequested to accept the responsibility and service of a GBCmemberand ISKCON initiating guru in 1986. In 1988 he took uptheleadership of ISKCON in Hungary, while in June 2003, SivaramaSwamistepped down from his GBC duties in UK and Ireland to be abletoconcentrate on his growing commitments in Hungary. As a memberofthe Governing Body Commission he is currently responsibleforleading ISKCON’s mission in Hungary, Romania and Turkey.
In ISKCON, Sivarama Swami is well known for his scholarship. Hehaswritten several books on Gaudiya Vaishnava theology andphilosophyand has taught many courses in Gaudiya Vaishnavism invarious partsof the world. He is also well-known for his Holy Namefestivalswhich annually attract hundreds of devotees to a feastofkirtan.
