Tiziano Vecelli or Tiziano Vecellio is knownin English as just Titian. Born in Italy between 1488/1490 and diedin 1576 he was the most important member of the 16th centuryVenetian school. He is recognised by his contemporaries as "The SunAmidst Small Stars", one of the most versatile Italian painters whowas equally skilled at portraits, landscape backgrounds as well asmythological and religious subjects. His use and application ofcolor influenced not only Italian Renaissance painters but also onfuture generations of western artists.
