বাংলাদেশের জাতীয় কবি কাজী নজরুল ইসলামছিলেনবিংশ শতাব্দীর অন্যতম জনপ্রিয় অগ্রণী বাঙালি কবি,ঔপন্যাসিক,নাট্যকার, সঙ্গীতজ্ঞ ও দার্শনিক যিনি বাংলা কাব্যে অগ্রগামীভূমিকারাখার পাশাপাশি প্রগতিশীল প্রণোদনার জন্য সর্বাধিক পরিচিত।তিনিবাংলাভাষার অন্যতম সাহিত্যিক, দেশপ্রেমী এবং বাংলাদেশের জাতীয়কবি।
পশ্চিমবঙ্গ ও বাংলাদেশ – দুই বাংলাতেই তাঁর কবিতা ও গানসমানভাবেসমাদৃত। তাঁর কবিতায় বিদ্রোহী দৃষ্টিভঙ্গির কারণে তাঁকেবিদ্রোহী কবিনামে আখ্যায়িত করা হয়েছে। তাঁর কবিতার মূল বিষয়বস্তুছিল মানুষেরওপর মানুষের অত্যাচার এবং সামাজিক অনাচার ও শোষণেরবিরুদ্ধে সোচ্চারপ্রতিবাদ।একাধারে কবি, সাহিত্যিক, সংগীতজ্ঞ,সাংবাদিক, সম্পাদক,রাজনীতিবিদ এবং সৈনিক হিসেবে অন্যায় ও অবিচারেরবিরুদ্ধে নজরুলসর্বদাই ছিলেন সোচ্চার। তাঁর কবিতা ও গানে এই মনোভাবইপ্রতিফলিতহয়েছে। অগ্নিবীণা হাতে তাঁর প্রবেশ, ধূমকেতুর মতো তাঁরপ্রকাশ। যেমনলেখাতে বিদ্রোহী, তেমনই জীবনে –- কাজেই "বিদ্রোহী কবি"।

১৯২১ সালের ডিসেম্বর মাসে কুমিল্লা থেকে কলকাতা ফেরার পথেনজরুলদুটি বৈপ্লবিক সাহিত্যকর্মের জন্ম দেন। এই দুটি হচ্ছে বিদ্রোহীকবিতাও ভাঙ্গার গান সঙ্গীত। এগুলো বাংলা কবিতা ও গানের ধারাকেসম্পূর্ণবদলে দিয়েছিল। বিদ্রোহী কবিতার জন্য নজরুল সবচেয়ে বেশিজনপ্রিয়তাঅর্জন করেন। একই সময় রচিত আরেকটি বিখ্যাত কবিতা হচ্ছেকামাল পাশা-এতে ভারতীয় মুসলিমদের খিলাফত আন্দোলনের অসারতা সম্বন্ধেনজরুলেদৃষ্টিভঙ্গি এবং সমকালীন আন্তর্জাতিক ইতিহাস-চেতনার পরিচয়পাওয়াযায়। ১৯২২ সালে তাঁর বিখ্যাত কবিতা-সংকলন অগ্নিবীণা প্রকাশিতহয়। এইকাব্যগ্রন্থ বাংলা কবিতায় একটি নতুনত্ব সৃষ্টিতে সমর্থ হয়,এরমাধ্যমেই বাংলা কাব্যের জগতে পালাবদল ঘটে। কাজী নজরুল ইসলামএরউপন্যাস নিয়ে অ্যাপ্লিকেশনটি করা হয়েছে ।
