Introduction to Bible Dictionary
Bible Dictionary is an official publication of The Church ofJesusChrist of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Since 1979,BibleDictionary has been published as an appendix to most copies oftheKing James Version (KJV) of the Bible printed by the LDSChurch.The dictionary contains 1285 entries on 196 pages. Thepublicationstates that it was "designed to provide teachers andstudents witha concise collection of definitions and explanationsof items thatare mentioned in or are otherwise associated with theBible.

The LDS Bible Dictionary was created in the 1970s by theScripturesPublications Committee of the LDS Church. The committeedelegatedthe responsibility of creating an LDS bible dictionary toRobert J.Matthews, a Brigham Young University Professor ofAncientScripture. Matthews gained permission from CambridgeUniversityPress to use their bible dictionary as the template forthe LDSversion.
