The Apphas been created to ensure ease of access for service users, peoplewho use alcohol and / or drugs and who require updated informationand also workers who are involved at all levels of drug and alcoholservice provision. You can register with our email update serviceto get reminders when we have updated the App content or there havebeen important changes to legislation, policy etc. People whomisuse / abuse drugs, alcohol or other substances may experiencevarying levels of distress at personal, familial, community / andsocietal levels. At the individual level, this may include damageto their physical and mental health and well-being, and possibly totheir ability to support themselves. There may also be problemsassociated with their families’ lives via negative impacts on thehealth and well-being of their children and in some cases place aburden of care on other relatives (including their children). Theremay also be negative impact on the communities in which they livethrough the crime and anti-social behaviour sometimes associatedwith substance misuse. Recognition of the complex nature of issuesrelated to substance misuse is crucial in order to gain anunderstanding of the problems faced by many people who misusealcohol and drugs. Poverty, multiple adversities, poor housing,long term unemployment, family breakdown, poor mental health andemotional well-being and financial instability may be precipitatingfactors in substance misuse or may be consequential factors of themisuse trajectory.
