রেকর্ড সংখ্যাক দেশ পদক সংগ্রহের জন্য অপেক্ষা করছে।এবারেরপ্রতিযোগিতায় কসোভো ও দক্ষিণ সুদানসহ ২০৬ টি জাতীয় অলিম্পিককমিটি(এনওসি) থেকে ১০,৫০০ জনেরও বেশি ক্রীড়াবিদ অংশগ্রহণকরবে।আন্তর্জাতিক অলিম্পিক কমিটি কর্তৃক ২০০৯ সালে সংযুক্ত করাক্রীড়ারাগবি সেভেন্‌স ও গলফ সহ ২৮টি অলিম্পিক ক্রীড়ায় ৩০৬টিইভেন্টঅনুষ্ঠিত হবে। ক্রীড়া প্রতিযোগিতাসমূহ আয়োজনের জন্য আয়োজকশহর রিওদি জেনেরিওর ৩৩টি ভেন্যু এবং অতিরিক্ত হিসাবে ব্রাজিলে সর্ববৃহৎ শহরসাও পাওলো, রাজধানী শহর ব্রাসিলিয়া, মানাউশ ও সালভাদোর শহরথেকে ৫টিভেন্যু নির্বাচন করা হয়েছে।
