O Campeonato Cearense de Futebol de 2016 seráa 103ª edição do torneio.

Na primeira fase, um grupo único terá as 10 equipes, que
se enfrentaram em um único turno(9 rodadas).
As 8 melhores avançam para a fase seguinte e as duas últimas serãorebaixadas.

Na segunda fase, já há disputa mata-mata com ida e volta.O
1º colocado na primeira fase enfrenta o 8º,
2º x 7º, o 3º x 6º e o 4ºx 5º colocado.
A principal novidade, entretanto, ocorre nas
semifinais e final, que terá formato playoff (melhor de três)
. Só não haverá terceira partida se uma das equipes vencer os doisprimeiros jogos. Em caso
de vitória de uma equipe X contra Y no primeiro jogo e empate nosegundo, haverá terceira partida, por
exemplo. E se no terceiro confronto, o time Y bater o time X,
teremos disputa de pênaltis.
