Campeonato Carioca de Futebol de 2017 será116ª edição da elite do futebol no Rio de Janeiro.
Com um novo formato, a primeira fase será disputada por seis clubes(grupo A): os quatro times de pior campanha no ano anterior (excetoos rebaixados) mais os dois promovidos da Série B de 2016. Os doismelhores colocados avançam para a fase principal e as outras quatroagremiações disputam o quadrangular do rebaixamento. Os dois pioresdo quadrangular caem para a Série B do ano seguinte.

Já a fase principal será dividida em dois grupos de seis equipescada (grupos B e C), havendo dois turnos (Taça Guanabara e TaçaRio) com semifinais e finais em jogos únicos. A partir destaedição, os campeões de cada turno garantem vaga para as semifinaisda competição, e não mais para a final, como acontecia antigamente.Os outros dois semifinalistas serão as equipes melhores colocadasna classificação geral fora as campeãs dos turnos e desconsiderandoos pontos obtidos nas semifinais e finais dos turnos. Caso um timevença tanto a Taça Guanabara quanto a Taça Rio, os três melhoresclassificados completam a disputa por vagas na grandedecisão.

Nas semifinais dos turnos, os times com melhores campanhas nosgrupos terão vantagem do empate. Na semifinal do campeonato, quemavança com igualdade no placar serão os campeões de cada turno. Emnenhuma final há a vantagem do empate. A semifinal geral serárealizada em jogo único, enquanto a final terá ida e volta.

From this edition, thechampions of each shift job guarantee to the semifinals of thecompetition, and not to the end, as in the past. The other twosemifinalists will be the best placed teams in the overallstandings out the winners of shifts and disregarding the pointsobtained in the semifinals and end of shifts. If a team wins boththe Guanabara Cup as the Rio Cup, the three best teams complete thecompetition for places in the big decision.

In the semifinals of shifts, the teams with the best campaigns inthe groups will lead the tie. In the semifinal of the championship,who advances with the score level will be the champions of eachshift. In no end there is the advantage of the draw. The generalsemifinal will be held in a single game, while the final willreturn.
