اسمه الكامل( كاظم جبار ابراهيم السامرائي)،منمواليد الموصل 12/9/1958 متزوج منذ عام1976 وله ولدان (وسام وعمر)وسام من مواليد 1981وعمر من مواليد 1987 ، تربى كاظم في بيت صغيرجداوتتالف عائلته من 7 اخوان هم(عباس و حسن و حسين وعلي ومحمد و سالموابراهيم) وله اختان(اميرة و وفاطمة)انتقلت العائلة من مدينةالموصلالى بغداد في منطقة الحرية بحكم عمل ابيه .
من هوايات كاظم.. ركوب الخيل وكرة القدم والرسم والنحت والموسيقىنشأتعنده بوادر فنية عندما كان عمره 12 عاما وكونه تربى في عائلهفقيرةكان يعتمد على نفسه فكان يعمل في عطلاته يبيع المثلجات والكتبالى انجمع ثمن اول الة موسيقية ( الكيتار) وكان ثمنها 12 دينارا .بدأتعلاقته مع الشاعر كريم العراقي من خلال مقدمة مسلسل كان بعنوانناديةوتوالى هذا الابداع حيث فازت اغنية ها حبيبي بجائزة الاوسكار منمجلةالسينما والناس في مصر عام 1997 وقدم اغنية تذكر التي ترجمت الى88لغة عالمية وقد فاز بها من منظمة اليونيسكو العالمية كافضلاغنيةللاطفال وتسلم وسام التكريم في باريس .
درس الموسيقى 9 سنوات في معهد الدراسات الموسيقية ببغداد ،ودرًَسالموسيقى للتلاميذ سنة ونصف واكتشف ان لديه ميول للموسيقى حيثكانجالسا مع اخيه حسن في السيارة وهما يستمعان لمحمد عبدالوهاب ومنبعدهاتعلم العزف على الة الجيتار ومن ثم العود ، بدات حياة كاظمالفنيةالفعلية عام 1989 في اغنية لدغة الحية من كلماته والحانه واولدولةسافرها هي الكويت ومن ثم بيروت التى اوحت له بأغاني مثل ( نزلتللبحروهذا اللون وكثر الحديث ) ، ويجب ان لا ننسى ان كاظم كتب العديدمناغانيه ويعترف فناننا ان احلامه بدات تتحقق في قصيدة مدرسة الحبواناول تعامل مع نزار القباني في قصيدة اختاري ورحل نزار وتركباقاتجميلة للموسيقار كاظم ينثرها عبر الحانه وصوته الرائع هو عاشقللحزنواحب ان يعبر عن اهاته من تجارب شخصيه فيختار الكلمه لتلامسقلوبحملها الى زمن قدنا به الحب والرومانسية وسر من اسرارجاذبيةاغانيه هواتساع خياله الذي يجعله قادرا على مواصلة مسيره ابداعاتهاللحنيةوالغنائية ولعب كاظم دورا مهما بتجديد التراث باضافاتوتوزيعاتللاغنية العراقية الحديثة انتقل بها من العراق الى المدنالعربيةوالعالم .
لقد أصبح كاظم الساهر نجم العراق والعرب الأول بفضل هيبته علىالمسرحوالابداع والاصالة على الحب ، نحن في هذا الزمن بحاجة فعلا الىكاظمالساهر ومن هذا الحرمان والثقة بلنفس استطاع ان يكون اسم لا يشبهايالاسامي واجمل الاسامي فاقل شيء نستطيع ان نقدمه له هو حبناواحترامناواعتزازنا وتقديرنا الكبير له نعم انه يتعب من اجلنا . جميعاغانيهكانت من الحانه دون استثناء ولحن للعديد من المطربين منهم"ماجدهالرومي و لطيفةوغاده رجب".
