Calligraphy is a visual art related towriting.It is the design and execution of lettering with a broadtipinstrument, brush, among other writing instruments.[1]:17Acontemporary calligraphic practice can be defined as, "the artofgiving form to signs in an expressive, harmonious, andskillfulmanner".[1]:18

Modern calligraphy ranges from functional inscriptions anddesignsto fine-art pieces where the letters may or may notbereadable.[1][page needed] Classical calligraphy differsfromtypography and non-classical hand-lettering, though acalligraphermay practice both.[2][3][4][5]

Calligraphy continues to flourish in the forms of wedding andeventinvitations, font design and typography, originalhand-letteredlogo design, religious art, announcements, graphicdesign andcommissioned calligraphic art, cut stone inscriptions,and memorialdocuments. It is also used for props and moving imagesfor film andtelevision, testimonials, birth and death certificates,maps, andother written works
