Description

Klondike is known as solitaire, being one of the better known ofthe family of patience games. Klondike is played with a standard52-card deck, without Jokers. After shuffling, seven piles of cardsare laid from left to right. Each pile begins with one upturnedcard. From left to right, each pile contains one more card than thelast. The first and left-most pile contains a single upturned card, the second pile contains two cards (one downturned, one upturned),the third contains three (two downturned, one upturned), and so on,until the seventh pile which contains seven cards (six downturned, one upturned). The piles should look like the figure to the rightat the beginning of every game. The four foundations (lightrectangles in the upper right of the figure) are built up by suitfrom Ace (low in this game) to King, and the tableau piles can bebuilt down by alternate colors, and partial or complete piles canbe moved if they are built down by alternate colors also. Any emptypiles can be filled with a King or a pile of cards with a King. Theaim of the game is to build up a stack of cards starting with twoand ending with King, all of the same suit. Once this isaccomplished, the goal is to move this to a foundation, where theplayer has previously placed the Ace of that suit. Once the playerhas done this, they will have "finished" that suit, the goal beingto finish all suits, at which time the player would have won. Thereare different ways of dealing the remainder of the deck: The goalis to move all cards to the four foundations on the upper right. -Turning and Moving Click the stock (on the upper left) to turn overcards onto the waste pile. Drag cards to move them between thewaste pile, the seven tableau columns, and the four foundations. You can also double-click cards instead of dragging them to afoundation. You may move single cards or piles of cards within thetableau. You may only move cards off the waste pile, but you mayonto and off the foundations. Any time you expose a face-down cardin a tableau column, that card is automatically turned face-up foryou. The Foundations are ordered by suit and rank, each Foundationhas one suit and you must put the cards onto them in the order Ace2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 Jack Queen King. To get there, you can use themoves described below. - Allowed moves Flip cards from the Stockonto the Waste. You can flip either 1 or 3 cards from the Stockonto the Waste. The number can be configured in Options. Move acard from the Waste onto the Foundations. If the top card of theWaste can go onto one of the Foundations then you can drag itthere. Move a card from the Waste onto the Tableau. You can movethe top card of the Waste onto one of the Tableau piles. Move acard from a Foundation back onto the Tableau. You can move the topcard of a Foundation back onto the Tableau. This isn't allowed inall Sotaire versions, but we allow it here. Move one or more cardsfrom one Tableau pile to another. You can move a face up card onthe Tableau onto another Tableau pile, if that pile's top card isone higher than the moved card and in a different color. You canmove a Tableau card onto the Foundations. You can do this manuallyif you need to clear some space on the Tableau. You can either dragthe cards onto the Foundation, or just double click it and then itwill got there by itself. When all cards on the Tableau are turnedup, and all cards from the stock are finished then the game willautomatically move all the Tableau cards onto the Foundations, since at that point you are guaranteed to win the game. - Time andMoves The game counts the moves you make, and measures the time ittakes to finish the game, so you can compete against your previousbest games
