A train is a form of rail transportconsistingof a series of vehicles that usually runs along a railtrack totransport cargo or passengers. Motive power is provided byaseparate locomotive or individual motors in self-propelledmultipleunits. Although historically steam propulsion dominated,the mostcommon modern forms are diesel and electric locomotives,the lattersupplied by overhead wires or additional rails. Otherenergysources include horses, engine or water-driven rope or wirewinch,gravity, pneumatics, batteries, and gas turbines. Traintracksusually consist of two running rails, sometimes supplementedbyadditional rails such as electric conducting rails and rackrails,with a limited number of monorails and maglev guideways inthemix.[1] The word 'train' comes from the Old French trahiner,fromthe Latin trahere 'pull, draw.
