She is signed to Artbeatz,ZEntertainment, and RED Distribution, and released herself-titleddebut extended play (EP), Daya, on September 4, 2015,whichincludes the song "Hide Away", which has peaked at number 23on theBillboard Hot 100. She released her debut studio album SitStill,Look Pretty on October 7.

Daya was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her grandfatherisIndian American, and her stage name Daya (Hindustanipronunciation)is the word for "compassion" or "kindness". In gradeschool sheattended St. Bernard School, later she attended Mt.Lebanon HighSchool, where she graduated in June 2016. At the age of3, Dayabegan to learn the piano, eventually converting to jazzpiano atthe age of eleven. By this time, she had also learned toplay theguitar, ukulele, saxophone, and flute.
