The Mahabharata or Mahābhārata is one ofthetwo major Sanskrit epics of ancient India, the other beingtheRamayana.
Besides its epic narrative of the Kurukshetra War and the fatesofthe Kaurava and the Pandava princes, the Mahabharatacontainsphilosophical and devotional material, such as a discussionof thefour "goals of life" or purusharthas. What is Mahabharat?

Mahabharat, which literally means ‘the great story ofBharatdynasty’ is part of the Hindu Itihās, i.e. ‘that whichhappened’.It is an extraordinary story of sibling rivalry,diplomaticmaneuvering and shifting of human values culminating in adirectconfrontation on the battlefield of Kurukshetra between fivesonsof King Pandu (Pandavas) and hundred sons of KingDhritarastra(Kauravas).
