Description

The "Click It & Ticket" app is a toolsponsored by the Tennessee Governor's Highway Safety Office for usein state high schools participating in the "Click It & Ticket"traffic safety awareness program. The digital application acts as atracking tool that students can use in a discreet and subtle mannerto count the number of student drivers and passengers who arrive onschool premises wearing their seat belts. This information can thenbe automatically sent to the program director(s) and administratorsoverseeing the project, by way of the email feature in the app. TheCIAT app utilizes a comprehensive database for Tennessee HighSchools, allowing students to select their school, as well as theevent that they are conducting (pre- or post-awareness eventtracking). It allows students to see and record (via email)tangible results of the project to gain insight in to the impactthat a traffic safety awareness day has within a school setting.

Project Background:

The "Click It & Ticket" project is meant to promote highwaysafety among teens and focuses specifically on increasing seatbeltcompliance. This project is also intended to be directed by theteens themselves, therefore promoting leadership development andownership of highway safety issues. “Click it AND Ticket” is a playon words of the usual slogan of “Click it OR Ticket” in that CIATrewards students who arrive to school wearing their seatbelts witha “Citation of Good Behavior” and students found not to be wearingtheir seatbelts with a “Warning: Poor Choice” citation. Thosereceiving a good citation will also be eligible to win at least onegrand prize of a $100 gift card, which is 10 times the amounttypically assessed to a teen found not wearing their seatbelt. These grand prizes will be provided by State Farm and GHSO, andwhile schools are encouraged to solicit other small items forstudent incentives and prize giveaways, no prize given out shouldbe valued greater than the $100 gift card provided by the eventsponsors. Teens will be able to take their citations home to theirparents, which presents relevant statistics and resources relatedto teen driver safety. Teens will also be given brochures on TNGraduated Driver’s License policies (GDL), the risks of usingalcohol and drugs, and other printed information for teens andtheir parents regarding teen driver safety.
