Kannadasan was a Tamil poet and lyricist, heralded as one ofthegreatest and most important writers in the Tamil language.

Frequently called Kaviarasu (King of Poets), Kannadasan wasmostfamiliar for his song lyrics in Tamil films and contributedaround5000 film lyrics apart from 6000 poems and 232books,includingnovels, epics, plays, essays, his most popular beingthe 10-partreligious essay on Hinduism, Arthamulla Indhumatham(MeaningfulHindu Religion).

He won the Sahitya Akademi Award for his novel Cheraman Kadaliinthe year 1980 and was the first to receive the National FilmAwardfor Best Lyrics, given in 1969 for the filmKuzhanthaikkaga.

Kannadasan's greatest contribution to Tamil culture ishissongwriting.Lyrics with simple words but a profoundphilosophicalmessage were his trademark style.

He quickly became the most sought after lyricist in the industryandremained so until his death.
