A hardrock/blues rock band,they have also been considered a heavy metalband, although theyhave always dubbed their music simply "rock androll". AC/DCunderwent several line-up changes before releasingtheir firstalbum, High Voltage, in 1975. Membership subsequentlystabiliseduntil bassist Mark Evans was replaced by Cliff Williamsin 1977 forthe album Powerage. Within months of recording the albumHighway toHell, lead singer and co-songwriter Bon Scott died on 19February1980. The group considered disbanding, but buoyed bysupport fromScott's parents, decided to continue and set aboutfinding a newvocalist. Ex-Geordie singer Brian Johnson wasauditioned andselected to replace Scott. Later that year, the bandreleased thenew album, Back in Black, which was made as a tributeto Bon Scott.The album launched them to new heights of success andbecame theirall-time best-seller.
