The origins of chess are not exactly clear, though mostbelieveit evolved from earlier chess-like games played in Indiaalmost twothousand years ago. The game of chess we know today hasbeen aroundfor more than 500 years!

The Goal of Chess

You and your opponent are each in charge of an army. Yourgoal:to catch the other army's king (before they catch yours)! Whenyouhave him attacked and he can no longer escape, it'scalled"checkmate," and you win!

Starting a Game
