Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanottaknownprofessionally as Lady Gaga, is an American singer,songwriter, andactress. She performed initially in theater,appearing in highschool plays, and studied at CAP21 through NewYork University'sTisch School of the Arts before dropping out topursue a musicalcareer. After leaving a rock band, participating inthe Lower EastSide's avant garde performance art circuit, and beingdropped froma contract with Def Jam Recordings, Gaga worked as asongwriter forSony/ATV Music Publishing. From there, recordingartist Akonnoticed her vocal abilities and helped her to sign ajoint dealwith Interscope Records and his own KonLive Distribution.

Her debut album The Fame (2008) was a critical andcommercialsuccess that produced global chart-topping singles suchas "JustDance" and "Poker Face". A follow-up extended play, TheFameMonster (2009), was met with a similar reception and "BadRomance","Telephone", and "Alejandro" were released becomingsuccessfulsingles. Her second full-length album Born This Way wasreleased in2011, topping the charts in more than 20 countries,including theUnited States, where it sold over one million copiesin its firstweek. The album produced the number-one single "BornThis Way". Herthird album Artpop, released in 2013, topped the UScharts andincluded the successful single "Applause". In 2014, Gagareleased acollaborative jazz album with Tony Bennett titled Cheekto Cheek,which became her third consecutive number one in theUnited States.For her work in the television series American HorrorStory: Hotel,Gaga won a Golden Globe Award in 2016.
