Description

"Dagon" is a short story by H. P.Lovecraft,written in July 1917, one of the first stories he wroteas anadult. It was first published in the November 1919 edition ofTheVagrant (issue #11).

Although there has never been any mention of it byLovecrafthimself, there is an ancient Sumerian god named Dagon whois thefertility god of grains and fish. He is sometimes depicted asbeingpart fish, or simply wearing a fish. Since Lovecraft was fondofreferences to actual archaeological discoveries in hiswritingsfrom time to time, he may have come across this ancient godanddecided to use it for some vague inspiration. This, of course,isspeculation.
