Mir Syed Ali bin Shahab-ud-Din Hamadani (Persian: میر سید علی ابنشہاب الدین ہمدانی‎‎; 1314–1384) was a Persian Sūfī of the Kubrāwīorder, a poet and a prominent Shafi'i muslim scholar.[1][2] He wasborn on Monday, 12th Rajab 714 AH (1314 A.C) in Hamadan[3] and diedin 786 AH/1384 in Kunar and was buried in Khatlan.[4] He was veryinfluential in spreading Islam in Kashmir and has had a hugeinfluence on the culture of the Kashmir valley.[5] He was alsoknown as "Shāh Hamadhān" ("King of Hamadhān", Iran) and as Amīr-iKabīr ("the Great Commander"). He wrote several short works onspirituality and Sufism. In 14-century Mir Ali Hamdani came toKashmir along with 700 craftsmen from parts of Persia when AliHamadani came to Ladakh, home land of pashmina goats, for the firsttime in history he found that the Ladakhi goats produced soft wool.He took some wool and made socks and gave them as a gift to theking of Kashmir, Sultan Qutabdin. Afterwards Hamadani ,suggested tothe king that they start a shawl weaving industry in Kashmir usingthis wool.pashmina trade gives economic strength not only people ofKashmir but also in region of Mongolia, China,U.S.A, and Europeancountries, the united nations specialized agency UNESCO reported in2014 that Ali Hamadani was one of the principal historical figureswho shaped the culture of Kashmir, both architecturally and alsothrough the flourishing of arts and crafts and hence economy inKashmir. The skills and knowledge that he brought to Kashmir gaverise to an entire industry. Works[edit] Risalah Nooriyah, is atract on contemplation. Risalah Maktubaat, contains Amir-i-Kabir’sletter. Dur Mu’rifati Surat wa Sirat-i-Insaan, discusses the bodilyand moral features of man. Dur Haqaa’iki Tawbah, deals with thereal nature of penitence. Hallil Nususi allal Fusus, is acommentary on Ibn-ul-‘Arabi’s Fusus-ul-Hikam. Sharhi QasidahKhamriyah Faridhiyah, is a commentary on the wine-qasidah of ‘Umaribn ul-Fariz who died in 786 A.H. =1385 A.C. Risalatul Istalahaat,is a treatise on Sufic terms and expressions. ‘ilmul Qiyafah is onphysiognomy. Dah Qa’idah gives ten rules of contemplative life.Kitabul Mawdah Fil Qurba, puts together traditions on affectionamong relatives. Kitabus Sab’ina Fi Fadha’il Amiril Mu’minin, givesthe seventy virtues of Hazrat ‘Ali. Arba’ina Amiriyah, is fortytraditions on man’s future life. Rawdhtul Firdaws, is an extract ofa larger work entitled. Firdawsul Akhyaar, by Shuja-ud-DinShiruyah. Manazilu Insaaliqin, is on Sufi-ism. AWRAAD-UL-FATHIYAH,gives a conception of the unity of God and His attributes.
