Newssary was developed by Dr Eva Ng of the University of HongKongin an effort to promote innovative teaching and knowledgeexchangein society. It contains up-to-date bilingualChinese-English termstrending in the news, and has an intelligentsearch engine capableof recognizing traditional and simplifiedChinese characters, andEnglish misspelt words and spellingvariations. Users can bookmarkand export their own customized listsof terms by email, and chooseto receive notification of newentries. They can also test theirbilingual competency by playingthe word game. This new versioncomes complete with the muchsought-after trilingual pronunciationfeature and an optionalregistration system that allows registeredusers to suggest newterms for inclusion, send feedback and maketranslation requests.Newssary is an indispensable toolkit forinterpreters andtranslators, teachers, language learners andprofessionals fromvarious sectors such as law, medicine andfinance. It has wonmultiple awards, including the 2016 HKU ArtsFaculty KnowledgeExchange Award, the 2017 HKU Teaching InnovationAward, as well asthe 2018 Top Ten Healthy App Award in a publiccontest organised bythe Office for Film, Newspaper and ArticleAdministration (OFNAA) ofthe HKSAR government.
