護生就是護心—愛護生命就是愛護我們的心—

我們凡夫眾生由於累劫以來所造的殺業，所以身上有著貪心、瞋恨心、愚癡心，以及種種的煩惱習氣，因此我們推廣護生、帶動大放生的活動，就是要消除我們的殺業，開發我們人人本具的善心，繼而解除眾生對人類長期以來的恐懼。

無論是有意殺害眾生，比如蚊蟲、螞蟻、蟑螂；或是無意間傷害了眾生的命，比如那些微細的蟲卵，這些行為我們都應盡量避免。但是在日常生活中，我們往往因為許多小動作，或生活習慣上的疏失，傷害了許多細微的生命而不自知。在這裡我教大家一個用身口意三業來護生的方法：

在這本小冊子中所提的許多生活習慣，並不是每一個人都會碰到，當我們拿到這本小冊子時，仔細閱讀，把你覺得在生活中會碰到的有哪幾項，勾選起來，隨時翻閱，不斷的提醒自己，盡量避免在不經意的行為中傷害了小生命。

當你避免這些會殺害物命的行為時，你是「身業」在護生；當你把許多護生小常識告訴大家時，則是用「口業」在護生；當你愛護眾生命，就像愛惜自己的生命，並且能夠時常為眾生迴向時，你已經是以「意業」在護生了。

「慈悲」是淨化昇華的大愛；「護生」則是淨化心靈之法，更是祥和社會之道。所以，護生即是護心，護心則是修心。

希望大家都能熟讀這本《護生手冊》的內容。除了參加放生以外，我希望每一個人都能從日常生活中開始培養護生的觀念，隨時隨地留意生活上的小細節，無形中也避免了許多殺業。望大家共勉！

認識本書

這本《護生手冊》的內容編輯自《安士全書》中的《萬善先資集》。《安上全書》是一本著重在戒殺、戒淫以及倡導西方淨土的善書，印光大師允為善世第一奇書。

《萬善先資集》這一部分是專門提倡戒殺、放生的文集。由於是清朝時期的作品，所以書中所載，除了有些風俗民情已不存於現代社會外，用詞簡要或多為文言，與現代人的閱讀習慣也不相同。因而特別重新編輯，挑選符合現今社會的內容，改寫成白話文，並且以條列式的方式編排，讓大家容易閱讀。

本書主要倡導是「護生」的觀念，尤其要從平常的生活習慣著手。在日常生活中，我們沒有注意到的許多，小地方，經常在無形中造了殺業而不自知，所以本書一一分門別類整理出來，除了教導許多護生小常識外，最重要的是護生觀念的引導與培養。

另外，也收錄了許多關於放生的疑問，尤其是把經常有人提及的問題整理出來，讓大家對放生、護生能有更正確的認識，並且日後若有初接觸佛教的人，不了解戒殺與護生的意義時，本手冊可以做為入門書，接引初機學佛者。
