Description

The Afghan Hound is one of the oldestsighthound dog breeds. Distinguished by its thick, fine, silky coatand its tail with a ring curl at the end, the breed acquired itsunique features in the cold mountains of Afghanistan,and east ofIran where it was originally used to hunt hares and gazelles bycoursing them. Its local name is Sag-e Tāzī (Persian(Dari): سگتازی) or Tāzhi Spai (Pashto: تاژي سپی). Other alternate names forthis breed are Kuchi Hound, Tāzī, Balkh Hound, Baluchi Hound,Barutzy Hound, Shalgar Hound, Kabul Hound, Galanday Hound, orsometimes incorrectly African Hound.
