El gamusino es un animal imaginario que seutiliza en varias regiones de España, Portugal y Cuba para gastardiversas bromas, tanto a niños como a cazadores, pescadoresnovatos, excursionistas, etc. La más habitual consiste en convenceral novato de que el gamusino es un animal esquivo que sólo puedecazarse de noche.

En diversas regiones de España se usan distintos nombres paraanimales o personajes imaginarios de naturaleza similar algamusino. Así, se llama gambosí o gambutzí en Valencia y Cataluña ogamusino en Salamanca, gangüezno en algunas zonas de Extremadura;biosbardos, gazafellos o cocerellos en Galicia, cordoveyos enAsturias, gambozino en Portugal y gambusino o gamburrino en otroslugares de la península. En el altoaragonés de la comarca de Ayerbese utiliza por su parte el vocablo bambosino. En Francia existe unanimal fantástico equivalente, el dahu, y la chasse au dahu (cazadel dahu) es una broma tradicional.

En León el gamusino se utiliza, entre estudiantes, como broma alos novatos, a quienes se les hace creer que es una pieza de caza.Para ello, los experimentados hacen ver que corren y los cogen a lavez que el novato debe cargar con el saco en el que los encierran.Mientras el novato carga con el saco sin ver nada, los bromistasvan llenando el saco con piedras. También sirve como juego para losmás pequeños durante la noche. Se les invita a ir a cazargamusinos, no paran de preguntar cómo son. El cazador debe cantar lacancioncita «Un, dos, tres, cuatro, Gamusino al saco» de formacontinua. El sonido y la cancioncita atraerían al gamusino el cualentraría corriendo al saco. A pesar de lo absurdo de dicha forma decacería, son muchos los que caen víctimas de esta broma. En muchasocasiones son varias personas que se ponen de acuerdo juntas paragastarle la broma a un novato y los bromistas tienden a hacer todauna puesta en escena comenzando por entablar conversaciones, frentea la persona que intentan engañar. Hablando de sus proezas enantiguas supuestas cacerías y de los gamusinos que han comidoasados se van poniendo de acuerdo sobre una cacería a realizar enesa noche.
