Audio Reinforcement
Every sentence in a Word Monster story can be read aloud bytouching the audio icon to the left of the sentence, withhighlighting of each word so that students can associate theprinted word with its sound. Each decodable word can also betouched to sound it out e.g., touching the word "Tag" will resultin the audio sounding out each individual letter – /T/ /A/ /G/ –before blending the sounds together to say "Tag."

Reading Buddy
Each screen in the Word Monster books features optionalsupplementary instruction around phonemic awareness, printconcepts, reading comprehension, vocabulary, and sight words. Thisinstruction is aligned to the US Common Core State Standards. Someof this instruction takes a question/answer format, with theReading Buddy playing the role of a teacher or parent prompting thestudent and keeping him/her at the edge of his/her learningcurve.

Interactive Animations
Every screen in the Word Monster books is enriched with interactiveobjects, each of which can be touched to trigger a fun animation.In the process, the object is named in the audio and thecorresponding word appears on screen. The goal of theseinteractions is to entertain the child, while at the same timeincreasing vocabulary by introducing more challenging words in anengaging way.

Character Speech
Children can interact directly with the characters on screen bytouching them to elicit a response in the form of a short phrasethat relates to events in the story. This speech is simultaneouslydisplayed in a speech bubble to support the audio. This featureallows the user to engage with the story in another fun way, whilealso introducing richer, more challenging vocabulary than thatcontained in the main decodable text.
