Over the last decade, forensic exploitationhas had a profound impact on the battlefield. The attribution of anenemy attack, whether via explosives or firearms, can now be tracedback to a weapon or an individual through the fusion ofintelligence and forensics. The Army’s Forensic ExploitationDirectorate provides the Department of Defense a deployable,forensics exploitation lab capability that is a battlefield enablerand has multiple applications across the range of militaryoperations. Commanders can use expeditionary forensics to supportthe development of timely actionable intelligence, supportfollow-on operations, and as a critical component of the targetingcycle.
