Born in 1928, Dakshin Kalikata Sansad (DKS)wasthe brainchild of a group of visionaries who were keen todevelopsports amongst the middle class fraternity of the city ofKolkata.The institution was then known as the The South CalcuttaClub. M/sJ.C.Das, J.C.Mukherjee, Harshonath Mukherjee, KhitishDasgupta, AmarBose, Sudhangshu Banerjee, Bhojohari Ganguly,Narayan Sen, PramathoNath Mukherjee (Santosh) are just to name afew who were associatedwith the foundation of the institute.Theinstitution had a modestbeginning. Cricket and soccer were playedon the famous DeshapriyaPark, while the campus had three claytennis courts and four grasscourts, as well as a table tennisroom. Yet, it produced a number ofchampions not only at the statelevel, but also at the national andthe international levels.
