تطرق لوكاريه لأبرز موضوعات التجسس في رواياته ، خاصة بين الشرقوالغرب ، ثم قرر أن يدخل منطقة الصراع الساخنة في الشرق الاوسط بهذهالرواية " الطبالة الصغيرة " ، حيث تجئ أهمية هذا الرواية في اطار "الصراع العربي الاسرائيلي " وقد بدا أن لوكاريه يريد تقديم صورةالمناضل الفلسطيني بوجهها الحقيقى فهو ليس ذلك الارهابى الذى تصورهوسائل الإعلام الغربية ، ولكنه الباحث عن الحق في أن يعود إلى أرضهالتى طرد منها وإذا كانت الموساد قد نجحت في تحقيق هدفها باغتيال خليلفي هذه الرواية ، فإن المؤلف كشف عن الوسائل التى يتم بها تلفيق التهمللمناضلين ، مثلما حدث وادعت وسائل الاعلام أن ارهابيا اختطف فتاة وهوأمر غير حقيقى .
